This class is suitable for absolute beginners, as well as more experienced ceramicists.
We will supply all materials EXCEPT the fabric for your lampshade.
Join the Where Inspiration Blooms team for this completely unique 2-week course where you will not only be crafting a hand-built ceramic lamp but also making your own gorgeous matching lampshade! …and as if that wasn't enough your lamp base will also be fired in a raku kiln...honestly this is going to be fabulous!
In Week 1 we will be based at our ceramics studio in Holmer Green – hand-building our lamp bases with special raku clay. At this point you will be able to choose to keep your base plain or you can add extra details…including adding textures, relief work or carving – whatever you think will add extra interest when you glaze it.
We will then hold onto your lamp bases popping them through the kiln for a bisque firing before week 2.
In week 2 we will be over at The Pavilion in Penn Street. Here we will start the 3-hour session by glazing our bisque fired lamp bases using special raku glazes.
Our team will put your glazed lamp bases into the raku kiln and then onto a reduction bin to complete their firing process. Meanwhile, back inside... we will be using kits to make 25cm lampshades in the fabric you have brought with you.
Once both your lamp and lampshade are complete we will wire up our bases, add bulbs and pop on the shade for the final grand reveal!
Imagine carrying home a brand-new lamp that you have literally made every single part of – happy days!
At Where Inspiration Blooms, we’re big fans of delicious cake! In both of these classes, you can enjoy a choice of traditional and herbal teas from Chesham-based tea connoisseurs, Two Spoons, as well as both caffeinated and decaf coffee. We have dairy and non-dairy milks to suit every preference, and our homemade cakes are always sourced from good local bakers. We also make sure those who need gluten-free options aren’t left out. If you have any allergies, please do let us know when you book so we can make sure everyone has a wonderful and worry-free treat.
Please note that we will only be able to run this class/course if we have a minimum of 5 guests. All of our teachers are highly skilled in their fields, but being an artist isn't always a well paid profession so we hope you understand why it's important that we ensure that our teachers can afford to run each of their classes. Should the class not be able to go ahead we will contact you no less than 2 weeks before it is due to start and we will of course, offer you a full refund.
If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact us via our email julesandcaroline@whereinspirationblooms.co.uk
Thank you so much for booking onto one of our workshops — we’re really looking forward to welcoming you and hope you find your class to be a space where your inspiration can really bloom 😉
