This class is suitable for absolute beginners and those who have painted or drawn before. You will be designing cards in this workshop but can equally frame them as little pictures when you get home if you prefer!
Autumn is my favourite season largely due to her generosity when it comes to inspiration!! Our Chiltern hedgerows, woodlands, fields and gardens are full of berries and hips, seed heads and fallen leaves, apples and conkers, fungi and fading flowers... there are so many beautiful little fruits and treasures that can be foraged as the wheel of the year turns again and the season changes.
In this lovely, relaxed morning workshop, local professional illustrator Ellie Good will show you how to take these little things that catch your eye and turn them into your own pieces of artwork. You will create simple shapes and then add detail and pattern using pencil or ink pen over the top.
We'll start by looking at the shapes and forms that make autumn so recognisable, using a limited palette of paint or ink to create simple colour shapes. Then we'll build them up with pencil and ink, adding lines, textures and patterns to bring our autumnal shapes to life.
These designs will be created directly onto a series of cards. Everyone will leave with their own individual collection of beautiful handmade cards to take home or send to loved ones as the pull of hibernating and letter writing grows stronger!
With an experienced illustrator by your side, Ellie will guide you through her process, encouraging you to look at familiar autumn treasures in a slightly different way and find your own way of interpreting them. You'll have plenty of opportunity to experiment, play with colour and pattern, and discover how surprisingly simple marks can become something quite beautiful.
This is a workshop for anyone who loves the colours, shapes and textures of the natural world in Autumn and would like to spend a couple of hours slowing down, noticing the season and making something beautiful from it.
ABOUT ELLIE
Ellie is an illustrator, designer and writer with a passion for environmental issues. Through her work, she celebrates colour and form, exploring themes such as identity in a disconnected world and reminding people of the wonder in nature. Ellie has a Masters in Children’s Book Illustration and takes illustration commissions, designs products and patterns, makes picture books and animates gifs. She loves stencilling and print-making, as well as working with layers of pencil, ink and paint. When she isn’t drawing, Ellie spends her days sniffing books, laughing at her cat, walking in the woods, admiring 60s wallpaper and trying to hug her ever-growing kids.

Please note that we will only be able to run this class/course if we have a minimum of 5 guests. All of our teachers are highly skilled in their fields, but being an artist isn't always a well paid profession so we hope you understand why it's important that we ensure that our teachers can afford to run each of their classes. Should the class not be able to go ahead we will contact you no less than 2 weeks before it is due to start and we will of course, offer you a full refund.
