Held in Colour - A Creative Space for Overwhelmed Mums

1-3pm on Wednesday 18th November

£20 per person.  All materials included plus delicious home made soup, bread and cake!

We have created a little creative haven for mums who need a tiny pause at this crazy busy time of the year!

We know that craft can't fix the overwhelm realities of juggling home, kids, work and all the other things that somehow end up on your to do list... and it certainly can't make the worries and anxieties that come with parenting a SEND child disappear... but we also know that sometimes, just stepping away for a short while and using a different part of your brain can make everything feel a tiny bit more manageable when you come back to it.

So in conjunction with Karen Wyllie, we've created this afternoon as a space to come into and simply just be.

On Wednesday 18th November we will be opening up The Pavilion between 1pm–3pm.  You can drop in for as long or as little of that time as you like. There is no need to arrive at 1pm, and no expectation that you stay until 3pm. Come when you can. Leave when you need to.

The most important thing is that you give yourself permission to play with your creativity for a while (and have some lunch and a break from the normal routine).

We're gonna have two creative stations set up for you to explore.  Nothing too 'arty' and definitely nothing intimidating or tricky.

The Printing Table

This isn't a class where you'll be expected to learn lino printing or master the art of mono printing.

It's much more about instant printing gratification!  We'll have a table covered with all sorts of interesting things to print with, and you can simply have a go. Make marks, experiment with colour, layer things up and see what happens.  You can print onto cards, tote bags, little boards or good old-fashioned paper. There is no pressure for a specific outcome or finished piece and absolutely no expectation that you will leave with something worthy of the mantlepiece.  It's just a time for you to muck about and see what happens.

The Mixed Media Table

Our other creative station will be mixed media - by that we mean lots of different mediums like coloured tissue papers, patterned papers, paint, lettering and all sorts of other bits and pieces for you to combine in whatever way takes your fancy.  This table is all about ripping, chopping, gluing, painting and doing whatever takes your fancy.

You might make something beautiful.

You might make something slightly odd.

You might simply move pieces of paper around for half an hour and drink tea or eat soup.

All of those things are absolutely fine.

This is your official permission slip to come and just be.

To make something without having to be good at it.

To sit alongside other women, have a chat if you feel like it, or quietly get lost in what you're doing if you don't.

And because nourishment is about more than just making things, we'll have plenty of hot and cold drinks, homemade cake, fruit and some lovely vegan-friendly vegetable soup with bread.

And if you don't eat all the fruit, don't worry...You can print with it!!

We want this to be a genuinely nourishing afternoon for your mind and your soul. A little pocket of time where nobody needs anything from you and you don't have to achieve anything.

Come for whatever time you can spare.

We can't promise that everything in your life will feel magically better when you leave, but we hope you'll feel just a little bit calmer than when you arrived.

About Karen Wyllie

This creative space will be facilitated by Karen Wyllie, a local art and wellbeing practitioner and mum of two, so she knows a little bit about the general chaos of trying to keep all the plates spinning!

Karen runs Held in Colour, which uses creative activities to support relaxation, self-expression, confidence and social connection.

Held in Colour isn't art therapy. It's simply a welcoming, supportive space where people can explore creativity without pressure, judgement or any requirement to be 'good at art'.

Karen and Jules have been plotting this afternoon for months, ever since they first met and discovered a shared love for Daisy Fancourt's recent book Art Cure.  They also both share a belief in the power of creativity to make us feel a little more human.  So grab a friend who needs a break and we will see you on 18th.

If you have any questions then please drop Jules an email on jules@whereinspirationblooms.co.uk
