We first ran a workshop with Jen Roffe back in the very earliest days of Where Inspiration Blooms.  In fact it was our very first sell-out class... but then through a number of various different factors (not least covid and us having to leave The Barn) any future collaborations fell by the wayside.
 
Fast forward to Christmas 2024 and you can imagine how excited we were when we bumped into Jen at festive Craft Market... and we began planning to work together again.  2025 saw 3 sell-out workshops and for 2026 we are delighted to bring you 2 expert-led workshops.
 
This August, you are warmly invited to join expert calligrapher Jen Roffe for a beautifully creative workshop exploring the art of modern brush calligraphy.
 
Relaxed, expressive and wonderfully mindful, this contemporary style of lettering transforms simple words into joyful works of art. Using bold brush pens and flowing movement, you’ll learn how to create elegant, characterful lettering in a welcoming and inspiring environment.
 
Modern calligraphy is as much about creativity and self-expression as technique. In this immersive three-hour workshop, Jen will guide you through the foundations of brush lettering while encouraging you to develop a style that feels uniquely your own. This approach is refreshingly accessible, intuitive, and delightfully mess-free.
 
Jen will begin by introducing the essential principles of brush calligraphy, including posture, paper positioning, pen control and pressure techniques.
 
You’ll then move through a carefully guided series of exercises, practicing foundational brush strokes, mark making, and both upper and lowercase letterforms. As your confidence grows, you’ll begin connecting letters into words and phrases, exploring rhythm, spacing and style.
 
Throughout the workshop, there is a strong emphasis on enjoyment, experimentation and creative freedom—learning the rules, and discovering how to bend them beautifully.
 
Using the techniques you’ve learned, you’ll create your own finished hand-lettered pieces to frame, display at home, or gift to someone special. Before long, you may find yourself creating beautifully personalised cards and stationery for every occasion in the calendar.
 
All materials are thoughtfully provided for use during the session and to take home afterwards, allowing you to continue practicing and creating long after the workshop has ended.
 
During the class, you’ll work with a curated selection of specialist broad-tip brush pens in a variety of colours, alongside Jen’s signature calligraphy templates and lettering guides, premium white card stock and practice sheets.

At Where Inspiration Blooms, we’re big fans of delicious cake! In this class, you can enjoy a choice of traditional and herbal teas from Chesham-based tea connoisseurs, Two Spoons, as well as both caffeinated and decaf coffee. We have dairy and non-dairy milks to suit every preference, and our homemade cakes are always sourced from good local bakers. We also make sure those who need gluten-free options aren’t left out.  If you have any allergies, please do let us know when you book so we can make sure everyone has a wonderful and worry-free treat.
 
Please note that we will only be able to run this class/course if we have a minimum of 5 guests. All of our teachers are highly skilled in their fields, but being an artist isn't always a well paid profession so we hope you understand why it's important that we ensure that our teachers can afford to run each of their classes. Should the class not be able to go ahead we will contact you no less than 2 weeks before it is due to start and we will of course, offer you a full refund.
