This workshop is suitable for all levels of experience, from absolute beginners to experienced artists.
 
Kate Rebecca Leach of Essoldo Design began teaching her stunning abstract watercolour and collage classes with us in spring 2025, and every class since has sold out. If you haven’t joined one of her superb workshops yet, I wholeheartedly recommend that you do. They are expertly and carefully designed so that everyone leaves with a piece of work they can be proud of — and they’re also really good fun.
 
Kate will be teaching 2 classes with us this Spring – Abstract Seascapes on 26th February and Spring Blossoms on 12th March.
 
Celebrate the arrival of spring and the fleeting beauty of cherry blossom, spring bulbs and the first seasonal blooms in this inspiring abstract watercolour workshop with Kate. From the soft, unfolding petals of blossom to the joyful colours of daffodils, tulips and other spring flowers pushing through the earth, you’ll draw inspiration from the shapes and colours of the season. Explore how to create striking botanical forms and decorative patterns, including one of Kate’s signature motifs, using a palette of your choice.
 
With Kate’s expert guidance, you’ll discover how to layer colour, create expressive organic shapes and bring your designs to life by combining watercolour with delicate ink details and accents of metallic.
 
Taking inspiration from nature and Kate’s own portfolio of abstract designs and patterns, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to experiment and develop your own ideas. The result will be a unique piece of contemporary artwork, full of beautiful colour, texture and detail. If you feel inspired to, you are very welcome to bring your own inspiration sheets with you.
 
You really don’t need any previous watercolour — or art — experience. That’s the beauty of these workshops: you can simply come along, experiment with watercolour and enjoy a wonderfully creative day.
Kate will provide all the materials that you need for this workshop but you are also very welcome to bring your own favourite paints or brushes.
 
Kate Rebecca Leach is an artist and illustrator based in Hertfordshire. Her original artwork and high-quality Giclée prints feature creative watercolour techniques and embellished metallic details. Kate founded Essoldo Design in August 2020 and has since sold pieces to more than 35 countries, as well as successfully licensing her work in the UK, Europe and the USA. Her bestselling book, Creative Abstract Watercolour, was published in spring 2024 and is now available in seven languages. Her second book, Creative Abstract Mixed Media, followed in October 2025, and she has recently launched a new workbook filled with gorgeous watercolour projects to try at home, with clear instructions and guides.

At Where Inspiration Blooms, we’re big fans of delicious cake! In this class, you can enjoy a choice of traditional and herbal teas from Chesham-based tea connoisseurs, Two Spoons, as well as both caffeinated and decaf coffee. We have dairy and non-dairy milks to suit every preference, and our homemade cakes are always sourced from good local bakers. We also make sure those who need gluten-free options aren’t left out. If you have any allergies, please do let us know when you book so we can make sure everyone has a wonderful and worry-free treat. Also a note for coeliacs – we can be coeliac friendly so do just ask.
 
For our one-day classes or any class that runs over your normal lunchtime, please don’t forget to bring a packed lunch…you don’t want your tummy rumbling just at the point that the room goes quiet with everyone in their watercoloury flow!!
