You are invited to join us this May Day for a celebration of all things blooming!
May Day, which is traditionally celebrated on May 1st, is a spring festival with ancient roots in the British Isles and celebrates the coming of summer and the energy and vitality of nature, growing and creativity.
It had been over 2 and a half years since we last ran a flower growing class at Where Inspiration Blooms when we dusted off our secateurs last September. Having run 2 sell-out class, which we have both absolutely adored, we have just added a May Day special. It's time to return to our 'roots' so to speak! Growing beautiful blooms and gardening are huge passions for us and to be able to now be a in position to run 'grow your own' workshops again is such a treat.
This 3 hour workshop is literally bursting with blooms as you spend time both learning about, immersing yourself in and planting seasonal flowers. We will start off meeting at The Pavilion in Penn Street, from where we will take a short walk through the adjacent fields and ancient woodlands into The Penn Estate. We are extremely lucky to have been granted private access to the estate's absolutely gorgeous walled garden which is a wonderful oasis for amateur gardeners.
Ross, the estate's head gardener, will give us a brief tour and answer any questions you have before you will be free to pick a handful of beautiful blooms from the garden.
Upon our return to the Pavilion we will have a quick cuppa and slice of home made cake before Where Inspiration Bloom's co-founder Caroline Oden teaches us how to add our handful of flowers to a selection of other flowers (grown by both of us in our gardens) to create a stunning hand-tied bouquet.
The class will finish with a wee talk from Caroline about growing annuals after which you will be given the opportunity to sow some from our wide selection of gorgeous seeds...and if that wasn't enough we will also be dividing a dahlia tuber!
Prior to co-founding Where Inspiration Blooms, Caroline Oden ran The Hidden Gate Blooms, an independent, artisan flower growing business specialising in British seasonal flowers. She is still a member of Flowers from the Farm, an RHS Chelsea Flower Show award winning co-operative of British cut flower growers.
As we will be outside for a large part of this class please do bring suitable clothing, just in case the weather takes a turn for the worse!
