A full list of what you need to bring is below

With sustainability at the heart of our business, we’re delighted to be able to introduce a brand new Clothes Mending Workshop for January ‘26. Often the most obvious thing to do to when piece of clothing gets damaged is to mend it (certainly our grandparents would have never dreamt of not mending them) but with less and less schools teaching basic sewing skills and fast fashion having been a dominating force in the last couple of decades, the knowledge of how to perform even the most basic of repairs has lost its place in our day to day lives.  In this session, we want to spread the word that mending is back and invite you to join us to learn some traditional skills to help us all make do and mend to keep fabric out of landfill!

This workshop has been put together, and will be led by our expert sewing teacher, Sam Slator, who also runs her own mending business, The Sewing Loft.  Sam is a huge advocate for sustainable fashion and regularly teaches a range of different sewing classes with us.

In this session you are invited to bring along any clothes that need repairing, and Sam will guide you through a range of the techniques to mend them yourself. You might be using hand stitching or if the ‘mend’ demands something more robust or large, we’ll have a couple of sewing machines available for you to use.  Equally you are very welcome to bring along your own machine if you prefer.

To help you get the very best out of this workshop and to help Sam prepare for it, please let us know in advance what items you’ll be bringing. We’d suggest that things such as tears, rips or holes or shortening trousers, skirts or dresses, could be a good place to start.  In this particular class we won’t have time to replace zips or darn holes in jumpers but we can chat about them if you also have them lurking in the mending bag!

You’ll leave with a renewed sense of confidence that not only are you more than capable of repairing and altering items to give them plenty for life, but also a satisfaction that armed with your new portfolio of ‘mends’ you can keep wearing your favourite items for even longer.

What you will need to bring:

  • Fabric scissors
  • Thread scissors
  • Thread
  • Measuring tape
  • Pins
  • Sewing Machine (optional)
  • You may also need to bring matching fabric but this depends on what you will be mending. We will advise you nearer the time.

Sam also runs regular one-day workshops with us which are a great place to put all of your newfound skills into practise and undertake a basic dressmaking project.

If you want to learn more about Sam and her work then you can follow her on Instagram or visit her website. https://www.the-sewing-loft.com/

At Where Inspiration Blooms, we’re big fans of delicious cake! In this class, you can enjoy a choice of traditional and herbal teas from Chesham-based tea connoisseurs, Two Spoons, as well as both caffeinated and decaf coffee. We have dairy and non-dairy milks to suit every preference, and our homemade cakes are always sourced from good local bakers. We also make sure those who need gluten-free options aren’t left out, with carefully selected treats. If you have any allergies, please do let us know when you book so we can make sure everyone has a wonderful and worry-free treat.

Please note that we will only be able to run this class/course if we have a minimum of 5 guests. All of our teachers are highly skilled in their fields, but being an artist isn't always a well paid profession so we hope you understand why it's important that we ensure that our teachers can afford to run each of their classes. Should the class not be able to go ahead we will contact you no less than 2 weeks before it is due to start and we will of course, offer you a full refund.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact us via our email julesandcaroline@whereinspirationblooms.co.uk

Thank you so much for booking onto one of our workshops — we’re really looking forward to welcoming you and hope you find your class to be a space where your inspiration can really bloom 😉
