@The Pavilion, Penn Street HP7 0PX

Suitable for beginners and more experienced gardeners. Everyone will leave with a selection of modules of flower seedlings to grow on at home.

If your dream is to walk out into your garden and pick enough flowers to create a beautiful bouquet or vases of home grown blooms then this is the class for you.  Even if you have a small growing space, in this workshop you will be shown which flowers to grow to make up the perfect balanced bouquet or arrangement.

We’re delighted to welcome back Ross Haynes, who runs the stunning gardens at the neighbouring Penn Estate. As part of this workshop, we have been granted rare, exclusive access to these private gardens — a unique opportunity to step behind the scenes and learn directly from the gardener who knows every inch of it. With many years’ experience growing vegetables and flowers for the Estate, Ross brings expert, practical knowledge rooted in daily, hands-on practice.

We are also really excited that Ross will be joined by Fiona MacLeod, founder of Chiltern Sky Flowers.  Fiona has a vast array of experience in growing - until recently selling bouquets, subscriptions, and flowers by the stem from her farm.  Fiona is well known for her flower arrangers’ buckets, 30-50 stems that customers bought from the farm to arrange themselves.  She also has run numerous workshops on flower arranging, hand tied bouquets and flower farming so we are in extremely expert hands.

In this 3-hour workshop you’ll gain a clear, practical understanding of how to grow beautiful seasonal flowers for cutting — even if you’re starting from scratch or have only a small space. The session is designed to build confidence and give you the skills to get growing straight away, using simple, achievable methods.

The workshop begins at The Pavilion with tea and homemade cake, as Ross & Fiona introduce the fundamentals of successful flower growing and share their expertise. Complete beginners will learn straightforward windowsill methods, so no specialist equipment is needed. You’ll also get hands-on sowing seeds and potting on young seedlings.

Once your flowers are underway, we’ll take a short scenic walk (under ten minutes) across the field and through the Estate’s private woodland to the Walled Garden. Here, Ross will demonstrate seed bed preparation, soil care for maximum productivity, what he adds to enrich the soil, and practical techniques including the no-dig method. You’ll also see seeds being sown directly into the ground.

Time in the Walled Garden is what makes this workshop truly special — an invitation into a normally private space to explore established flower beds, see the cutting garden that has supplied the Estate for years, and ask Ross questions as you walk. You’ll hear what he’s growing this season and discover reliable varieties worth trying at home.

Back at The Pavilion, we’ll focus on your specific growing plans and how to maximise productivity throughout the year.

This workshop is ideal for complete beginners, returning gardeners, and anyone wanting to make better use of their growing space. It offers a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, expert guidance, and practical takeaways you can apply immediately.

Everyone will leave with freshly planted seeds and a selection of plants potted on during the workshop, along with plenty of ideas and practical tips to try at home. We recommend bringing gardening gloves if you’d like to keep your hands clean, an apron if you wish to protect your clothes, and a tray to carry your pots home, as they will have been watered and may still be damp.

At Where Inspiration Blooms, we’re big fans of delicious cake! In this class, you can enjoy a choice of traditional and herbal teas from Chesham-based tea connoisseurs, Two Spoons, as well as both caffeinated and decaf coffee. We have dairy and non-dairy milks to suit every preference, and our homemade cakes are always sourced from good local bakers. We also make sure those who need gluten-free options aren’t left out.

Please note that we will only be able to run this class/course if we have a minimum of 5 guests. All of our teachers are highly skilled in their fields, but being an artist isn't always a well paid profession so we hope you understand why it's important that we ensure that our teachers can afford to run each of their classes. Should the class not be able to go ahead we will contact you no less than 2 weeks before it is due to start and we will of course, offer you a full refund.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact us via our email julesandcaroline@whereinspirationblooms.co.uk or call Jules on 07710 474699

Thank you so much for booking onto one of our workshops — we’re really looking forward to welcoming you and hope you find your class to be a space where your inspiration can really bloom 😉
