Pencil Pet & Animal Portraits

Friday, 5th July 10am to 12noon

£45 per person.  All materials provided.  No experience needed at all.

We are a nation of pet lovers so you won't be surprised to hear that we’ve been asked to run this class countless times over the last 6 years. Never ones to knowingly disappoint it’s finally here… Pet Portraits (or animal portraits if you don’t have a pet you want to immortalise).

Our lovely friend, Jaany Ravenscroft-Hull (who is a well-known local artist) will be leading this workshop.

Over this 2 hour very informal session, you will learn a range of basic drawing techniques to create your very own animal portrait! You don’t even have to draw pets… you can pick any creature that you want to capture in portrait form!

Jaany will show you how different pencils can create different effects, how to use shading for best effect, how to visualise and present the natural form of your pet but most importantly how to capture and interpret the unique characteristics of your special creature.  You will be using a grid method to capture your animal, which makes creating the finished piece much easier than you think.

Jaany is a very experienced art tutor who runs several classes a term with us, as well as a weekly ‘artists hub’ on a Friday afternoon where you can come and draw or paint whatever you like with her on hand to support and inspire as needed.

This workshop is for any level of artist from beginners to professionals who want to broaden their expertise.

All materials will be provided but if you have specific pencils (both graded or coloured then do feel free to bring them with you).

Please bring a few photos of your pet so that you have some reference materials to work with.  If you have an ipad you can bring them on then great, but if not simply printed out around A5 size in black and white would be ideal.

This class will only be able to go ahead if we have a minimum number of 5 guests. All of our teachers are highly skilled in their fields, but being an artist isn't always a well paid profession so we hope you understand why it's important that we ensure that our teachers can afford to run each of their classes. Should the class not be able to go ahead we will contact you no less than a week before the class is due to take place and full refunds will be issued.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to The Studio in Holmer Green.
