Introduction To Georgia O'Keeffe - An Artists Study

Saturday, 29th June 10am to 1pm

£45 per person

Suitable for beginners. All materials will be provided.

Join us for this brand-new workshop, the second in our series of exploratory classes looking at the works of a specific artist and then using them as inspiration for a piece of your own work.

Hot off the heels of our successful William Morris class, this time we will be exploring the fluidity and interpretation of nature through the work of Georgia O'Keeffe.

"I had to create an equivalent for what I felt about what I was looking at – not copy it."

O'Keeffe was an American modernist painter who challenged the art world by capturing how the natural world made her feel rather than how it identically looked. This approach was radical for the time but her work has been widely acknowledged as having made a significant impact on modern art as we know it. Georgia was a true trailblazer, a highly acclaimed female artist who still inspires people across the world. We will be delving into her younger years and seeing how her life flourished right through to the age of 98.

In this class we wanted to look at some of O'Keeffe's abstract and fluid paintings in more detail... what inspired them, what are their different components, how did she create from a place of feeling vs copy what she saw.. what was her inspiration from nature and what can we learn from it that will inspire our own pieces of art/craft.

In this class the artistic vibe will be expressive, vibrant colours and beautifully fluid shapes and forms.

Under the gentle guidance of local artist, Jaany Ravenscroft-Hull (who is known for her stunning seascapes of Irish and Norfolk coastlines) we will take a wee bit of time to look at O'Keeffe's work before taking what we've learned and either producing a piece of watercolour or soft chalk pastels.

Jaany will provide all the materials you need to take your study into a finished piece but please bring along anything you have at home if you want to use your own resources to get to know them better. Please wear an apron/old clothes.

This class really is about getting ‘stuck in’ with an artist, exploring what made their work so distinctive and then seeing what that inspires within you... learning to express your own creativity through looking at the works of another. You don't need any experience at all for this class, Jaany is a very experienced teacher who will unlock your creativity to help you go on to produce a piece you can be really proud of.

This workshop is for any level of artist from beginners to professionals who want to broaden their expertise. All materials will be provided and everyone will leave with their very own unique piece of work. This class is also available to anyone over 13 years (year 8 and above).

This class will only be able to go ahead if we have a minimum number of 5 guests. All of our teachers are highly skilled in their fields, but being an artist isn't always a well paid profession so we hope you understand why it's important that we ensure that our teachers can afford to run each of their classes. Should the class not be able to go ahead we will contact you no less than a week before the class is due to take place and full refunds will be issued.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to The Studio in Holmer Green,
