Last year we saw a widely reported statistic that said, 'in 2023, 40% less students took GCSE Art than 2010'. We passionately believe creative expression through arts & crafts is essential for teen wellbeing and have collated our classes to inspire your child to explore their creative side and get off their phone!
 
In this 3-week course local artist and expert art tutor Jaany Ravenscroft-Hull will be teaching 3 different classes, each one designed to inspire your teen through a completely different expression of creativity. Jaany has extensive experience teaching teens at both GCSE and A-Level cohorts which makes this course idea for anyone taking these or any other creative subjects.  That said, the beauty of this course is that your teen doesn't need any experience at all or to be studying art at school – they may just want something different to do at the weekend.
 
WEEK 1 - Miniature Worlds Photography
Taking inspiration from the contemporary art of Slinkachu, your teen will be using miniature figures and human sized objects as well as a variety of foods and props to create humorous, thoughtful or playful scenarios which they will photograph with their mobile phone or tablet. They are very welcome to bring a digital camera if they would prefer.
The idea is to get stuck in, try out lots of ideas and get creative and at the end of the workshop, they will have a selection of photos on their phone that they can print and frame, if they want, at home.
 
WEEK 2 – Acrylic Animal Painting on Canvas
In this class your teen will learn a wide range of techniques including composition, colour mixing and how to use brushes, pallet knives and random items like cardboard, old credit cards or string to make unique marks and styles of painting. All images, canvases and paints are supplied but if you think your teen will work fast then they are welcome to bring a second canvas with them.
 
WEEK 3 -  Wet Felting
For the final week of the course Jaany turns her attention to textiles.  Over the course of 2 hours Jaany will teach the ancient technique of felt making using the finest quality 100% Merino wool which gives incredible vibrancy of colour, finer blending and a really superior finished product.  Our students will learn how to make a piece of wet felted fabric which they can either keep as a piece or cut into cute little coasters, brooches or any shape they want.
 
This course will only be able to go ahead if we have a minimum number of 5 guests. All of our teachers are highly skilled in their fields, but being an artist isn't always a well paid profession so we hope you understand why it's important that we ensure that our teachers can afford to run each of their classes. Should the class not be able to go ahead we will contact you no less than a week before the class is due to take place and full refunds will be issued.
