Introduction to Raised Embroidery – Creating Woodland Textures
Join us for four hours of nature based stitching as we immerse ourselves in the world of raised embroidery inspired by our local ancient woodlands. In this brand new workshop Where Inspiration Blooms has teamed up with Viki Jenkins, an experienced local artist whose work is deeply rooted in the local flora and fauna of the Chilterns.
Viki exhibited with us at Bucks Art Weeks for the first time this year and we fell in love with her intricate and intuitively delicate work.
In this class Viki will be teaching how a collection of raised embroidery stitches can be used to create stunning woodland textures. Over the class you will learn how to stitch French knots, Bullion knots, turkey stitch, woven picots and cup stitches. These will then be combined with some basic bead embroidery to create mossy, woodland textures - which you can go on to expand on when you get home.
All of your materials will be provided including fabric, needles, threads, a 7" hoops and beading.
This will be a really informative but beautifully meditative workshop, from which we hope you can take home lots of new ideas for adapting your new portfolio of raised stitches into your own embroidery and textile practises.
This class will be taking place at our lovely Pavilion in Penn Street, overlooking beautiful ancient Chiltern woodlands.
Viki Jenkins is a Buckinghamshire based artist, working under her artist name ‘Thread Meditations’. She creates original embroidered artworks as well as embroidery kits and workshops.Viki studied a BA(hons) in Embroidered Textiles with the Julia Caprara School of Textile Arts, graduating from Middlesex University in 2012. Her work travelled to the World of Threads exhibition in Canada the same year, as part of her degree show. Her work is about sharing and celebrating an uplifting connection between self and flora through the contemplative act of stitching. Viki works with drawing and watercolours for the preparatory stages of her process, creating expressive drawings of plants and flowers that will later inform embroidered work. Her hand embroidery develops intuitively through a contemplative process of repeated stitched marks and informed colour choices. You can follow her work on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/thread_meditations
This class will only be able to go ahead if we have a minimum number of 5 guests. All of our teachers are highly skilled in their fields, but being an artist isn't always a well paid profession so we hope you understand why it's important that we ensure that our teachers can afford to run each of their classes. Should the class not be able to go ahead we will contact you no less than a week before the class is due to take place and full refunds will be issued.
