Throwing a pot is a lot more complex than the experts make it look on the Great Pottery Throwdown, which is why we steered away from running it as a one-off class for so many years (preferring to run our 3 week course where you can take the wheel home with you to practice in between!).
But back in 2021, after lots of requests we took the plunge and decided to offer this one-off workshop by way of an introduction to enable as many people as possible to try wheel throwing. You may not leave with an amazing piece worthy of being best in show after just the one session, but you WILL get the opportunity to see how throwing a pot feels to you, what's involved and whether you enjoy it enough to leap into ceramics more seriously.
In this really fun hour and a half session, under the expert guidance of our wheel throwing teacher Andrea you learn all the basic skills needed to throw on the wheel, such as clay preparation, centring the clay and pulling up a cylindrical shape (a key part of throwing as this is the basis for most wheel thrown ceramic pieces).
You will be working at your own wheel to have maximum throwing time rather than having to share with people you don't know.
Included in the price is also the opportunity to have 1 of the pots you've made during the class clear glazed and fired. This session will be held in our studio in Holmer Green and limited to a maximum of 6 people to ensure that everyone gets the benefit of Andrea's time and expertise.
Before you book this class please note the following:
- you will need to come and collect your pieces of work at a later date
- sadly we are not able to post pieces of pottery out
- you will be notified on email approximately 4 weeks after your class to let you know that your work is ready for collection
- Pieces will be kept for 4-weeks from this point. After this time they will be disposed of to make room for other people’s work
We very much look forward to welcoming you to The Studio.
