The main idea behind our brand-new introduction to print course is to HAVE FUN. Print is the most playful of creative techniques, relying a good deal on chance and moments of exquisite luck, so with 3 whole weeks within which to play and be creative, you can really sink into your time at The Studio and play with this exciting technique.
Although we will be following a structure (so that you can learn various processes as we go), if you do want to take a different path and try something new, or have another go at something we’ve already learnt, you are very welcome to. We can adapt and adjust around you as we go.
Printing has always been one of our most popular workshops largely due to our wonderful local teacher, Jane Peacock. Jane is not only a well-known Chilterns based print artist but also a highly experienced teacher, so we are really thankful that she is part of our Where Inspiration Blooms teaching community.
Brief Overview of Our 3 Weeks
Weeks 1 and 2 – Linocut. You can either…
- Make an edition of single colour prints in week one and then another set in week two, to hone your new-found skills, or
- Make a reduction print edition; a process at the end of which you will have a multi colour print, created through a slightly longer, more involved technique.
For both Lino weeks Jane will take you through each stage of the process - the best materials to use, basic tool techniques and how to use your tools to make different marks, design planning and transferring it to the lino, ink rolling and blending colours and printing.
Week 3 – Monoprint. This is the process of creating unique one-off prints through a variety of techniques, it’s extremely instinctive and you can really experiment. Stencils, freehand drawing, collage – we can play with it all.
This short course is suitable for absolute beginners as well as those with some experience of printing. All processes will be fully explained and detailed handouts provided after the classes.
All materials will be provided.

PLEASE NOTE
This class will only be able to go ahead if we have a minimum number of 5 guests. All of our teachers are highly skilled in their fields, but being an artist isn't always a well paid profession so we hope you understand why it's important that we ensure that our teachers can afford to run each of their classes. Should the class not be able to go ahead we will contact you no less than a week before the class is due to take place and full refunds will be issued
