Saturday, 14th September 9.30am to 3pm
£95 per person. All materials included (except your piece of furniture).
Suitable for beginners. This class will be taking place at our Pavilion in Penn Street, Amersham.
One of the core reasons we started our business back in 2019, was to share skills and craftsmanship to enable people to live more sustainably so we are really glad that this Furniture Upcyling Workshop continues to be so popular.
Tracy Watson from Blue Boy Furniture is a not only an expert professional furniture painter but a really great teacher, generaously sharing her knowledge, experience and top tips.
For this class we’d encourage you to take a look with fresh eyes in charity shops and lofts to bring new life to tired furniture pieces rather than throwing them away! The process of upcycling is incredibly rewarding, both from an environmental point of view as you dsave pieces from going into landfill but also as you can create some really unique pieces for your home.
In this one-day workshop you are invited to bring your own piece of furniture and learn how to paint it beautifully under Tracy’s expert guidance.
This is the perfect class for you if you have a piece of furniture at home which doesn’t fit your décor or needs a refresh. The class has been created specifically for beginners who want to learn how to paint furniture to a high standard in a fun, friendly and informal environment.
What will the class cover?
- How to prepare your piece of furniture for being painted so that the paint looks good and is durable.
- The painting process and why each step is so important in making the piece look the very best it can.
- The difference between mineral paints and chalk paints and the right brushes to use for different effects.
- When to use painting primers and topcoats.
- How to paint to achieve a really professional finish.
- Loads of ideas and inspiration for future furniture painting projects.
You will need to bring with you one piece of furniture that you can carry on your own (to and from your car), which you will be working on throughout the day. Ideal sized pieces include a small side table, a trolley, sewing box, or a bedside table – that sort of thing.
During the class you will be using a 500ml pot of Fusion mineral paint in a colour of your choice from Tracy’s available stock (subject to availability). You will use this on the day to paint your piece of furniture and take home any that is left. Please also note that we will not be able to offer white paints, Tracy will explain more about that during the class!
All other materials required and the use of Tracy’s brushes for the day are all included in the cost.
We will have hot drinks and refreshments throughout the day but we would encourage you to bring along a packed lunch. Painting furniture can be a very messy business so please do also dress appropriately or bring an apron.
There will be the opportunity to purchase more furniture paints and painting equipment on the day for future projects if you would like.

“I have been painting furniture since I bought my first house as a twenty something and needed to furnish it. I couldn’t afford new furniture and scoured the second-hand shops and auction rooms for quality vintage furniture which could be given a refresh with some paint for my new home.
Many years later in the summer of 2019, my business Blue Boy Furniture was launched. My days are filled with painting my client’s own furniture, kitchens and built-in wardrobes, as well as furniture for resale.
Blue Boy Furniture is also an online retailer of upcycle products including specialist furniture paints, decoupage papers and foils. I run a Facebook group called Fancy Foils and I am an online Content Creator for the company Aussie Décor Transfers which specialises in decoupage papers and transfers amongst other products. If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you will regularly see me popping up on lives and videos!
Upcycling furniture for me is about creativity and sustainability. Save a quality piece of furniture from landfill by creating something of beauty.”
We very much look forward to welcoming you to our Pavilion in Penn Street, Amersham.
