Join us for this brand-new workshop to Where Inspiration Blooms, which is perfectly timed to coincide with Sourdough September, a month-long awareness campaign for Real Bread, described by its organisers as 'a celebration of the floury fermentation goodness'.

Hot off the heels of building our gorgeous outdoor cob oven, we will be learning how to make a simple sourdough loaf using an organic starter and three ingredients: flour, water and salt - nothing more!

After introductions over a cuppa and slice of freshly made sourdough bread, we will be making a starter, a sponge and your dough. We will look at the techniques of proving, handling, shaping and baking. Our wonderful teacher Guy, will also educate us all on hydration, different flours and the health benefits of sourdough. It will become clear why modern bread making techniques cause the digestive disturbances so prevalent in our time. You’ll get tips on the tools you’ll need to make your bread life easier and how to fit it into your already busy life!

You’ll take home the dough you have made, ready to prove, along with a proving basket, complimentary dough scraper, a rye sourdough starter, a bag of flour and details on all the steps you’ve covered.

You will be provided with everything you need to make the dough except a bowl big enough in which to prove it (we will need you to bring that with you - all details given on booking).

Please also bring with you a cup to have your hot drink in!

In these uncertain covid times we are doing everything we can to ensure all of our safety. We will be adopting a strict rule of 2-metres social distancing, in spite of rules being relaxed to 1m plus. This workshop will be taking place OUTSIDE. We will be put up some basic shelters if the weather looks dodgy plus we have our tipi.

NB The extra date on Friday 25th September will be held INSIDE at Chartridge Lodge Hotel (where we are running all of our other workshops) IF the weather is bad. If the weather is Ok it will be held outside.

‘Celebrating Autumn’ Workshops

One of the main challenges that our business has faced this year is being able to run workshops with enough people to make them break even. The necessary extra cleaning and social distancing are significant challenges for Where Inspiration Blooms at The Barn. After trialling a week of workshops in July (our Wellbeing Festival) we have decided, that for the near future, to keep the business going we need to concentrate our workshops into bunches of one or two weeks so that we can hold them in a larger venue where we can have up to 12 people in the room or outside.

Our ‘Celebrating Autumn’ Workshops will run from Friday, 11th September until Saturday 26th at Chartridge Lodge Hotel and Conference Centre (next-door to The Barn).

Autumn is such a beautiful time of year, and we want to celebrate its stunning colours and natural changes through our wonderful community of teachers and tutors. After all the stresses of 2020 so far, we hope that in our selection of workshops you will find something that you will really enjoy and that will give you some joy in these uncertain times.
