This clay taster session will give you an introduction to ceramic slab-building techniques under Caroline’s expert tuition and allow you to design and create something that is both beautiful and functional.
Forage in our beautiful outdoor space for autumnal leaves, seed heads, fruits or flowers or use our printing blocks and other materials to imprint beautiful designs into the clay. In the past we have had people make items such as bowls, plates, spoons and nameplates for their houses.
Underglazes will be available on the day if you wish to add some colour to your work before it is fired.
Your best 2 pieces of work will be bisque fired and clear glazed after the session in our studio kiln and can be collected approximately 2 weeks after the session.
This is a great workshop to explore different clay making techniques or an opportunity to work on new pieces in the company of other people for experienced ceramicists.
‘Celebrating Autumn’ Workshops
One of the main challenges that our business has faced this year is being able to run workshops with enough people to make them break even. The necessary extra cleaning and social distancing are significant challenges for Where Inspiration Blooms at The Barn. After trialling a week of workshops in July (our Wellbeing Festival) we have decided, that for the near future, to keep the business going we need to concentrate our workshops into bunches of one or two weeks so that we can hold them in a larger venue where we can have up to 12 people in the room.
Our ‘Celebrating Autumn’ Workshops will run from Friday, 11th September until Saturday 26th at Chartridge Lodge Hotel and Conference Centre (next-door to The Barn).
Autumn is such a beautiful time of year, and we want to celebrate its stunning colours and natural changes through our wonderful community of teachers and tutors. After all the stresses of 2020 so far, we hope that in our selection of workshops you will find something that you will really enjoy and that will give you some joy in these uncertain times.
Safety & Security
During these times of social distancing please rest assured that we are taking all the recommended steps to ensure maximum safety. Our indoors Autumn Workshops will be taking place in a very large conference room inside our next-door neighbours main building at Chartridge Lodge Hotel.
The room is huge, has high ceilings, plenty of windows and will allow us to set up tables 2 metres apart from each other. We know the government guidelines have reduced the 2 metre rule but it is so important to us that everyone feels safe and comfortable, especially with our workshops being all about inspiring people to do things to enhance and support their wellbeing. We strongly believe that maintaining the 2-metre distance is the right thing to do. We will also be putting in place many other safety measures.
We will be asking all of our guests to come into the building wearing masks, which they can remove once they are inside the room and we will be providing hand sanitisers on each work station and when you enter the building. A full list of all the bits we are doing will be sent out to you on an email a couple of days before the workshop.
